Eric Kirzner

 

Professor Kirzner holds the John H. Watson Chair in Value Investing at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

 

He has written a number of books on investing practices and portfolio building for retail investors and has published extensively in the financial press.

 

He is very active in the financial community and serves on a number of financial and advisory boards and committees. Prof. Kirzner is a director and Chair of the Risk Committee of Equitable Bank, lead external advisor to Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan and a member of the investment committee of WealthSimple.

 

Prof. Kirzner has an extensive background in securities regulation. He was previously Chair of the TSE Special Committee on Market Fragmentation, Public Governor of the Toronto Futures Exchange, a director of the Derivatives Clearing Corporation, Chair of the OSC investor Advisory Committee, a director and Vice-Chair of Regulation Services and a director of IIROC.

 

One of Professor Kirzner’s primary interests is how retail investors make decisions. He is co-developer with Richard Croft the FPX Indexes that have been published daily in the Financial Post since 1997. These indexes are designed as asset allocation benchmarks that allow investors to measure the performance of their portfolios and assess whether there is value added from active management. He is also the author of the retail investor- focused Easy Chair portfolio published periodically in the Toronto Star.
